Bernadette Campbell: "I value where I live now"
Bernadette Campbell, 53, says her new home has given her a fresh start from a past troubled by drugs and alcohol. Although it's not easy to stay ahead of the bills, Campbell said, being it's worth it for the chance to live in a safe, clean apartment, where most residents live by the rules.

Angela Martin: "I'm ready to go"
Angela Martin, 30, grew up in the Ickes Homes on State Street and wants something different for her children. "I don't want to be in the projects all my life," she said. With a new baby on the way, Martin hopes to soon move from the Ickes to the nearby renovated Hilliard Homes on Cermak Avenue.
Tasha Collier: "I got tired of moving"
Tasha Collier and her children moved three times before they came to Mahalia Place, a new mixed-income community on 47th Street and one of the first re-developments of the Robert Taylor Homes. But moving to a mixed-income development has brought new fears.

Kassey Ross: "It's a mess over here"
Kassey Ross, 27, has had enough of the gangs and violence at Mahalia Place. Last July, she joined her neighbors in confronting the gangs she said have forced her to keep her two daughters inside. "It's a mess over here," she said. "The gangs took over."

Tracey Robinson: "It fits our family"

Tracey Robinson, 41, spent more than half her life in the Altgeld-Murray Homes. She says the Plan for Transformation gave her the extra push she'd been looking for. Robinson's family has since built a new life in the Pullman neighborhood and hopes one day to own a home of their own.
