Elizabeth Ryan is a multimedia journalist based in Chicago, and a recent MSJ graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. Her interest in writing about affordable housing issues began in Greenpoint, Brooklyn where she reported on the changes to the neighborhood due to the 2005 rezoning of the East River waterfront. Her experiences as a Katrina volunteer with Hands On Gulf Coast in Biloxi, Miss., further deepened her understanding of how affordable housing defines communities and strengthened her commitment to writing about housing issues.
In addition to housing, Elizabeth also enjoys writing about business trends, employment issues, transportation, urban planning, food, rural life, immigration, and the impact of climate change on business and communities.
As a correspondent for the Associated Press in Paris this fall, her work has appeared in numerous publications and websites, including washingtonpost.com, USAToday.com, the Houston Chronicle and the Chicago Tribune. Elizabeth's work has also been published in the Biloxi Sun Herald, The Times of Northwest Indiana, The Chicago Defender, beepcentral.com, The Chicago Journal and the Greenpoint Star. She is currently working on a short documentary film on human trafficking from the Middle East into Europe. For more information on Elizabeth's work, please go to www.elizabethbaldwinryan.com
